Notes
L'album è nella legatura originaria, con una copertina in cartoncino azzurro che serve, più che da frontespizio, da foglio pubblicitario. Vi è scritto infatti: "Compositions de Flaxman gravées par Thomas Piroli. Diminution de prix. Homère [Iliade] le 40 p lanches 3 écus; [Odissea] en 35 planches 2 écus 60 baj.; Eschyle Les Tragédies en 31 planches 2 écus 20 baj.; Hesiode [La Teogonia] en 37 planches 3 écus. 1845 A Rome chez Ignace Pavon Rue Babuino N. 124 3me Etage". - I titoli che abbiamo trascritto tra p arentesi sono cancellati con inchiostro. Nonostante quanto afferma questa iscrizione ed il titolo vero e proprio della serie le tavole non sono originali, ma sono copie anonime da quelle che T. Piroli incise da disegni del Flaxman per un'edizione delle Tr agedie di Eschilo pubblicata a Londra nel 1795. Già nel 1826 uscì a Firenze, un'edizione delle Tragedie di Eschilo per opera dell'editore Luigi Piazzini, contenente anch'essa copie da Tommaso Piroli, diverse però rispetto a queste del 1845. - Le tavole, t utte incise a contorno, sono anonime e numerate con numeri arabi sopra a dx.; sotto il filo di riquadro riportano alcuni versi tratti da tragedie di Eschilo tradotti in inglese; i nomi delle figure rappresentate nell'immagine sono subito sotto il filo di riquadro, in corrispondenza delle stesse
